The order matters

Reduce, reuse, then recycle

The three R's are in that order for a reason. It is important to try to reuse items even before we recycle them. It all diverts waste from the landfill.

1

Reduce

The best piece of waste is the one that never gets created. Less to sort, less to haul, less in the landfill.

2

Reuse

Before something goes in a bin, ask whether it has another use. That is the whole idea behind the Recycled Art Project challenge in February.

3

Recycle

What is left goes in the right bin. That is what gets weighed for your school every month, and what puts you on the leaderboard.

What goes where, officially

The SWA's printable posters show exactly what belongs in commingle recycling and what can be composted at your school. They are the authority, and they are free to print.
